Ngatapa Prizegiving 2010

Presidents Speech:

Welcome to the 2010 Ngatapa Prizegiving. It’s great to have two great All Blacks here tonight to give us an insight into what it’s like to play rugby at the highest level. Thanks to Andrew Hore for making the journey from the deep south Ian Kirkpatrick our club Patron and All Black captain for making this all possible.

It’s a privilege for me to stand here and reflect on how much progress the club has made over the years, from a time when players had to buy their own jerseys to a time where the club is financially stable and is fortunate to have many sponsors and volunteers who all contribute so much.

It’s been another fantastic year for the club both on and off the field. We have further added to the club’s facilities with an upgraded kitchen, a new spectators viewing fence on the no 1 Rugby Field and gas hot Water so all the players can have a hot shower. Thanks to the funding organisations who have enabled us to complete these projects, The Lion foundation, Mangatawa Beale trust, New Zealand community Trust.

The club also hosted The Tairawhiti 15’s and the Tiny White first round of club rugby.

All of our sporting teams have had successes and socially the club appears to be in great shape.

This hasn’t happened by accident, and I would like to pay tribute to all those who have dedicated time to various projects over the years. For example the building of the clubhouse, our home has been largely built by volunteers.

So I would ask that we all take time to consider and appreciate all the work that has taken place by volunteers to this day and consider giving something back to the club at some stage in the future. This includes becoming a committee member or coaching our teams at some stage. Ngatapa is a great club built on solid foundations which will ensure the greatness remains for future generations.

So a few thank you’s in here to the committee thanks for the time and effort you give, your support is much appreciated, I believe we have made good progress in streamlining the administration of the club.

Special mention must go to Lesley who, to me, is the glue that holds the clubs administration together. She continues to provide a fantastic service and often reminds us why things are the way they are. The value of Lesley to our club is priceless, her institutional knowledge and endless toil means she keeps us on the right track we are lucky to have her.

As I mentioned, socially we have had a big year, a huge thanks to Fiona who runs the bar. We appreciate your commitment and patience. Dave and Tim, thanks for running the bar all the numerous jobs you continue to do for the club.

I would like us all to take a moment to acknowledge and remember two of the Ngatapa Family who passed away during the Year. Pete Morice and Ian White made enormous contributions to this club over a long period and their smiling faces are missed at Ngatapa. To their families and friends we acknowledge their support and commitment.

Ian White, was our trusty caretaker and lawnmower when he passed away during the year and thanks to Fred Smith for voluntarily taking over from where Ian left off.

Thanks also to the coaches and managers, you people have such a huge influence, the players look up to you and a sports club cannot successfully field teams without you.

As well as our senior coaches – notably the commitment made by Charlie and Cilla Allan and the entire squadron of Senior B coaches and managers – I want to mention all the nippers coaches across soccer, Rugby and Netball.

Many of our teams played hard and fair and reached finals in their grades. Some of our young soccer players made their age group rep sides and a large number of Ngatapa junior rugby players will represent Poverty Bay this year. This would not happen without all those dedicated parents and supporters or without the support of HRV who sponsor the nippers codes. I must mention Simon and Erica McNeil who are the Nippers sponsors. They have seen us kit out all our teams with new gear and the children grew another foot taller when the last of the teams donned their new jerseys and soccer shirts this year.

Finally we are very fortunate to have such a committed membership. I refer to the wider Ngatapa Family which takes in supporters from all corners of our rural catchment and all those who contribute to growing our maize crop. I also include our sponsors, their contributions are significant and vital for the clubs ongoing success. Thanks to the Gold sponsors Pioneer seeds, Coxco, Ballance Agri-nutrients, Rod Chrisp from Bayleys Rural Real Estate, Merial Ancare, Eastland Vets, Farmlands, Keith Allen Appliances and HRV. Please support these sponsors whenever possible.

CoxCo has decided to relinquish its naming rights for the premier team for next year although Coxy has said he is keen to remain as a gold sponsor. This opened up the door for a new sponsor to come on board and I am happy to announce that John Larsen is putting his money where his ads go – you will all have seen them in the paper.

In 2011 the premier team will be Larsen Sawmilling Ngatapa. Welcome on board John.

Finally – thank you to all the players across all codes. Without you there would be no Ngatapa year on year. We acknowledge your efforts in fundraising, your attendance, training and good honest toil on the court and field and the results you have achieved. We also acknowledge the support of the husbands, wives and partners who make it possible for all players, coaches and committee members to give their time to the club.

BULA BULA!

Dust off the kava bowl, Ngatapa will soon be welcoming Api Ratuniyarawa and Paula Tikomainaivalu as new players from Fiji.

Api is a lock who has represented the Fiji Warriors (Fiji B/Dev) team on their recent tour of NZ & Aussie. Paul is wing and also represented the Fiji Warriors on the tour. Both come to Poverty Bay on the recommendation of John Stewart, last year’s Poverty Bay player of the year, who is also of Fijian extraction.

Both Api and Paul will be working for Ovation while in Gisborne - thanks to Grant Allen for arranging that. 2012 Junior Muster Day

The Ngatapa Rugby & Associated Sports Club would like to invite new and existing families and their children to come to the Junior Muster Day at The Clubrooms, Onslow Road, Patutahi.

N.B. This is a 'paper-work only' gathering so you just need to come between 10.00am and 12.00pm to complete registrations etc.

We offer teams in all grades of Junior Sport and the club has a strong tradition of supporting players, teams and coaches, so come along and register for your sport of choice.

Rugby

If you have registered with Ngatapa previously you will get a pre-printed New Zealand rugby registration form to sign and/or make any necessary changes to. Otherwise please fill out a new form.

Please bring a copy of your child's birth certificate or passport to verify their age (you only need to provide this once. This is a rquirement from the New Zealand Rugby Union).

Registrations

Teams will be completed within the week after Muster Day and your coach will contact you. If you cannot make it to Muster Day, please phone or email your details to Lou Livingston (contact details below) prior to the day. If your details aren't submitted before March 24, you will not be placed in a team. Late registrations will not necessarily be accepted.

Ngatapa Nippers Prizegiving

The Ngatapa Nippers prizegiving (Rugby, Netball & Soccer) will be held at the Patutahi Hall on Saturday September 10, 2011.

The prizegiving will be at 3pm.

At around 4.30pm, food will be available and between 5 and 7pm there will be a disco (No All Blacks World Cup games playing that night).

The 2012 season has begun

The first home game of the season was an absolute ripper. Both rugby teams showed huge "ticker" to hold on and win. The netball girls had the Kathleen Henderson Tournament and all teams had good results especially after having to play a heap of games one after the other. The soccer boys pulled off a win to complete the day.

This success resulted in a fantastic night at the clubrooms - the atmosphere was good fun and the deck is working a treat as a viewing platform to watch the games. It's an even better location for a social occasion.

Well done to the players of the day, especially Angus and Maggie who received Colosseum vouchers thanks to Mark Gardner and the team. Make sure you get down to the Colosseum and enjoy the best food and hospitality in town.

Sports update

We had a great turn out on Saturday at the clubrooms for the club day. It was also great to have our new deck dedicated to Lesley Richie. The day started with all the HRV Nippers running around. It was a showcase of all our future superstars.

The Silkies had a good win and will be demanding time on the main stage rather than out the back across the road, as they are still unbeaten for the season. The Harvest Transport Senior Ones management team will probably be having a few beers with Pat Lam this week as the boys got thumped by a Waikohu team that looked like they could be playing premier rugby. Heads up boys, there's another game this week to turn it around.

Larsawn Ngatapa had the crowd in a good mood at half time - nil all and playing with the wind in the second half, but it wasn't to be. Pirates starved them of the ball and managed to take the game 13-0. The boys have a bye this coming weekend and no rugby over Queen's birthday. This is a big break for a team that is getting better with each game.

Netball - great results overall. Colosseum Ngatapa are still finding their feet in the premier grade. They went down but Fred Tate Wool Team Two and teams three and four all had wins.

The game of the week has to go to the hockey girls. They went down to the best team in town 4 - 0, but the Gisborne Herald pre-game report said they would be doing well to keep YMP to a single figure score. Well done girls, that's a great result and you have made sure The Herald knows not to write you off again!

Well done to Campbell and Rochelle who get the Colosseum vouchers this week.

The club is looking for people who have their bar licence or who would be keen to get it, as we need to develop a group of people we can rely on to run our bar over the season. If you are keen or know someone who might be, please let us know and we can have a more detailed chat. The bar is our main income earner and without it we can't exist so please give it some thought.
